The External Member is a person who must have the following experience/qualification:
a. Must be well-versed with the Law (Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) 2013
b. Must have worked with an NGO or association that are committed to the cause of women
c. Should be familiar with the issues relating to Sexual Harassment.

With the above experience, the person brings an unbiased opinion to the panel. And therefore, its important to have an external member on the panel, as well as consult with the person on a regular basis.

Consulting with the external person can be for many activities and need not be limited to just for a complaint discussion.

External members can train the IC on a regular basis to ensure that they are aware of the changes made in the Law.
